Hey, Everyone! I have been super busy since my last update. Luckily, this is the time of year where Mother Nature leads the way. We have had good rains that have helped on all fronts: the creeks, ponds, forage, crops, cover, and antler growth. Everything appears to be in order and on time. I will be making more rounds on cameras in coming week, but I am tied up with recently moving and we are near the end of our high school baseball season here in Iowa. Playoffs start Friday, and it's a day-to-day basis from there. We have to win to keep playing. The state championship game is August 1st, which is also my birthday, so I'd love to be there for that. August 2nd, all time and focus turns back to whitetails. We have some great farms that do well when we get good precipitation in the summer, and trail cameras will continue to give us a glimpse of what genetics and age structure we have around the farm's immediate neighborhood. Food plots are what's next on my list. In between rains, I will have to get plots sprayed in the next 2-4 weeks, and then planting within 5-6 weeks. I hope the rain continues to give them a good boost into October. Yet, we want the crops out on time in September and October, so that we aren't going through the same battles we had in 2019.
If you have drawn for this year, and haven't talked to me, give me a call at your convenience or shoot me a text message. Mornings and early afternoons are best! I look forward to seeing you all in a few months! It'll be here before we know it. Until then, stay safe, avoid getting the 'Rona, and be looking for emails from me regarding recommended gear lists, aerial maps, scouting reports, and more. I can't wait!
Best regards,
Matt
